International Day of Happiness
20. March 2021
Today is the "International Day of Happiness." As we collectively face an ongoing global crisis, this year's "International Day of Happiness" is an opportunity to find uplifting and positive ways to take care of ourselves - and each other. All member states of the UN are encouraged to participate in the International Day of Happiness to raise awareness of the importance of positive emotions for humanity and to help others find ways to create "happiness. The day recognizes that happiness is a fundamental human goal and calls on countries to address public policy in ways that improve the well-being of all people.
By proclaiming a special Day for Happiness, the United Nations aims to draw global attention to the idea that economic growth must be inclusive, equitable and balanced so that it promotes sustainable development and alleviates poverty. In addition, the UN recognizes that economic development must be accompanied by social and environmental well-being in order to achieve global happiness.
